NAB SHOW OPENS WORLD’S LARGEST ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

OPENING SESSION JUMP-STARTS WORLD’S LARGEST ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

– NAB Show Attendees to be Greeted by NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith, Sony Executive Hiroshi Yoshioka, Michael J. Fox, and Astronauts Aboard the International Space Station –

LAS VEGAS — The 2010 NAB Show, the world’s largest annual conference and expo for professionals who create, manage and distribute entertainment across all platforms, moves into high-gear today with a Monday morning opening session that contains a mix of thought-provoking and entertaining speakers. More than 85,000 audio, video and film content professionals from 156 countries are expected to attend the event, which runs through Thursday, April 15 in Las Vegas.

Sony Corporation’s President Hiroshi Yoshioka, actor and activist Michael J. Fox, and NAB President and CEO Gordon H. Smith will address opening session attendees, who will also receive a special welcoming message from the crew aboard the International Space Station.

NASA astronaut Timothy J. Creamer and crewmate Soichi Noguchi, members of the Expedition 23 crew, will welcome attendees to the NAB Show from the International Space Station, currently located approximately 220 miles above Earth. As previously announced, the NAB Show Content Theater will feature a Tuesday session exploring how IMAX collaborated with NASA to produce “Hubble 3D.”

Giving his first state of the industry address since being named president and CEO of NAB in October, Smith will discuss the legislative and regulatory challenges and opportunities broadcasters face in the digital age and NAB’s advocacy efforts on behalf of radio and television broadcasters.

Sony Corporation Executive Deputy President and President of the Consumer Products & Devices Group Hiroshi Yoshioka will deliver the NAB Show opening keynote, focusing on the global and U.S. consumer demand for 3D technology as well as Sony’s vision for the future of 3D. Yoshioka will also share a 3D presentation to include footage recently shot at the Masters Golf Tournament.

Michael J. Fox, the Emmy Award-winning actor and advocate for Parkinson’s disease research, will be honored with the NAB Distinguished Service Award. That honor recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the broadcasting industry.

The NAB Show will feature more than 1500 exhibitors displaying the latest in media technology and more than 500 conference and training sessions. Other highlights of the NAB Show this week include the presentation of the NAB Television Chairman’s Award to “Big Bang Theory” actor Jim Parsons, Q&A sessions with “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner and comic book legend Stan Lee, a keynote speech from Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski, and several sessions devoted to the latest advances in 3D television and film, transmedia storytelling, social media, and augmented reality.

2010 NAB SHOW WELCOMES 200 FIRST-TIME EXHIBITORS

WASHINGTON, DC — More than 200 new exhibitors will showcase the latest technological innovations that help bring content to life during the 2010 NAB Show, held April 10-15 in Las Vegas. These first-time exhibitors will join a wide variety of NAB Show exhibiting veterans, totaling some 1,500 companies.

Major companies returning to the NAB Show include Adobe, Avid, Grass Valley, Harris, Microsoft, Panasonic, Sony and Verizon Wireless. The event hosts 497 international exhibitors.

The NAB Show exhibit hall will also debut several new attractions, including specialized exhibit areas and technology pavilions. Among them, Destination Broadband has nearly 60 companies and features the latest innovations in online video creation and distribution enabled by broadband technology. The new Mobile DTV Pavilion showcases the latest consumer devices and broadcast services that are making anytime, anywhere television a reality. “International Research Park: Technologies of the Future” features cutting edge technologies still under development in academic, government, and commercial research laboratories.

SONY EXECUTIVE HIROSHI YOSHIOKA TO DELIVER NAB SHOW OPENING KEYNOTE FEATURING EXCLUSIVE 3D PRESENTATION–NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith and Michael J. Fox Also Headline Event–

 WASHINGTON, DC –Sony’s Hiroshi Yoshioka will deliver the opening keynote on Monday, April 12 at the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas, show organizers announced today. Yoshioka, who oversees Sony’s television, digital imaging, home audio and video businesses, will focus on the global and U.S. consumer demand for 3D technology and Sony’s vision for the future of 3D technology, for consumers and professionals.

Expanding on Sony’s “lens to the living room” vision for 3D, Yoshioka will present exclusive 3D footage including clips from the Masters Golf Tournament and other sports and entertainment events.

“Sony is a technology leader whose innovations have changed the way we create, manage, deliver and consume audio and video content,” said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith. “Mr. Yoshioka has been central to that leadership and we look forward to him imparting his knowledge and insight on the technologies and trends that are driving our industry’s future.”

Yoshioka is executive deputy president and a corporate executive officer of Sony Corporation. He also serves as president of the Consumer, Professional & Devices Group, and oversees Sony’s Semiconductor & Component Business Group.

Yoshioka joined Sony in 1979 and has held various positions in the camcorder product division, personal audio video company, personal IT network company, and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB based in Sweden. During his tenure, he played a key role in the successful launch of Sony’s camcorder and digital still camera business. Most recently, he was president of the TV Business Group, where he led the transition of Sony’s TV business from CRT to LCD technology.

Also headlining the NAB Show Opening event will be NAB’s new President and CEO Gordon Smith. A two-term U.S. Senator from 1996-2008 and head of NAB since November 2009, Smith will deliver his first State of the Industry address at the 2010 NAB Show. Smith’s address will highlight the legislative and regulatory challenges and opportunities broadcasters face in the digital age, as well as NAB’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the radio and television industries. In addition, Smith will address the unique and positive role broadcasters play in every local community across America through their commitment to public service.

Michael J. Fox, Emmy-Award winning actor and advocate for Parkinson’s disease research, will be honored at the Opening event with the NAB Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes individuals who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the broadcasting industry.
